Christian Eriksen’s Agent Flies to Milan to Hold Transfer Talks With Inter Directors

?Christian Eriksen’s agent is set to meet Inter directors in Milan on Friday as talks progress over a January departure from Tottenham Hotspur.

The Danish international has repeatedly turned down the offer of a contract extension in north London with his current deal set to expire in the summer, prompting sides across Europe to battle to secure his signature this window.

Equally, there was a possibility that he could run down his Spurs deal and leave the club for free at the end of the season. However, ?Tottenham have always been keen to recoup a transfer fee for his services, thus a January move has become more likely.

It seems as though ?Inter are the side closing in on doing so, after it was revealed by ?Fabrizio Romano that Eriksen’s agent was flying to Milan on Friday where he will have face-to-face talks with the Inter hierarchy over a potential switch.

The Serie A leaders ?had initially hoped to sign Eriksen in the summer, but instead are willing to offer the 27-year-old a contract now and pay Spurs a fee, believed to be £20m, to fend off the interest of rumoured suitors Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The Red Devils had wanted to sign a number ten during the last window, but failed to secure a target despite ?Eriksen’s desperation to depart José Mourinho’s side. As the ?Evening Standard report, they pushed to secure his signature but ultimately accepted that the Dane preferred a move abroad and have now moved onto other targets.

Inter themselves have ?been coy on the move, with the CEO of the club, Giuseppe Marotta, dismissing speculation that they had won the race to sign him, saying: “Eriksen? It’s not a done deal, and we’re not in contact with Tottenham. He’s a fantastic player, and there are many clubs in talks to sign Eriksen because he’ll be a free agent. I can just say he’s an interesting player.”

However, that appears to have been a smokescreen for their actual intentions, as they look to steal a march on their European rivals. While no deal is as of yet confirmed, it would take a significant breakdown in negotiations to prevent the move going through. The midfielder has expressed his desire for a a new challenge, as well as a change in culture and lifestyle, with Inter offering that opportunity in Milan.
