Agent Alejandro Camano said Roma striker Borja Mayoral was close to joining Napoli. ‘He eventually arrived in Italy’.
The 24-year-old arrived at the Giallorossi on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid, but his agent revealed he was on the verge of moving to Italy already in 2019.
“It’s true,” Camano told CalcioNapoli24. “Cristiano Giuntoli is a great sporting director and before the move to Borussia Dortmund, he did everything to bring [Inter full-back Achraf] Hakimi and Borja Mayoral to the Azzurri.
“Anything can happen in football, but the agreement was not found even though Napoli did everything to bring them to the squad.
“In the end, Hakimi went to Borussia Dortmund. Borja Mayoral eventually arrived in Italy, at Roma.
“But in the future, why not?”
Mayoral has played 24 times in Serie A this season, contributing seven goals and four assists in the process.
The Giallorossi have an option to buy the striker after the 2021-22 season.
