Chelsea vs Inter Milan Preview: PL Champions to Round Off Asia Tour With Nerazzurri Clash

?Chelsea play their third and final game of this summer’s Asia tour on Saturday 29th July in Singapore, with Inter Milan lined up as the opposition for another International Champions Cup (ICC) game.

Antonio Conte’s side were narrowly beaten by Bayern Munich in their last outing.

Recent Encounters

Chelsea have only faced Inter in a competitive setting twice in their history, with both of those encounters coming over a two-legged Champions League Last 16 tie in 2010.

The Nerazzuri, then managed by Jose Mourinho, prevailed 3-1 on aggregate and would finish the campaign by winning Italian football’s first ever treble. Chelsea went on to claim a domestic double in record breaking fashion under the management of Carlo Ancelotti.

More recently, Chelsea faced Inter in a previous ICC game in Indianapolis, Indiana in the summer of 2013. Inspired by goals from Oscar and Eden Hazard, they cruised to a 2-0 win, while Inter finished the game with 10 men after Hugo Campagnaro was sent off.

The Venue

As was the case for the Bayern encounter, the game will once more take place at the Singapore National Stadium in the Kallang district of the wealthy city state.

Team News

New striker Alvaro Morata made his unofficial Chelsea debut against Bayern and will be hoping to score his first goal in club colours against Inter.

Pedro returned to London after the win over Arsenal for treatment on what Antonio Conte described as ‘multiple fractures’ after suffering a cheekbone injury against the Gunners. Brazilian wing-back Kenedy has been sent home as a result of internal disciplinary action.

Home-grown defender Fikayo Tomori will be keen to make it a clean sweep of pre-season appearances after playing all three friendlies so far, including the private thrashing of Fulham.

Inter Summer Lowdown

Inter have bade farewell to a few players since the end of last season, perhaps most notably Ever Banega after his €9m return to Sevilla and the release of veteran forward Rodrigo Palacio.

A handful of individuals, including Juan Jesus, Caner Erkin, and Gianluca Carpari, have also been sold after spending last season on loan elsewhere.

Star names such as Ivan Perisic, heavily linked with Manchester United, Mauro Icardi, Samir Handanovic, Antonio Candreva, Jonathan Biabiany and Joao Mario remain with the club.

This game will be Inter’s sixth of pre-season so far after already facing Lyon and Bayern in ICC fixtures, as well as an exhibition against Schalke in China and two other warm-ups in Austria.

New Faces to Watch Out For

Only Spanish midfielder Borja Valero, once briefly of West Bromwich Albion, and Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar (pictured) have been bought to strengthen the first-team so far this summer. Back-up goalkeeper Daniele Padelli has also joined from Torino on a free transfer.

The danger men that will pose a threat to Chelsea remain the aforementioned Perisic, Icardi and Candreva, a player whose agent claimed Conte wanted at Stamford Bridge in January.

Still to Come for Chelsea

There is only more game standing between Chelsea and opening the defence of their Premier League title against Burnley on 12th August, and that is the Community Shield against Arsenal at Wembley six days earlier in a repeat of the FA Cup final from May.

The Blues have already beaten the Gunners once this summer, thrashing their London rivals 3-0 in a friendly in China after goals from Michy Batshuayi (2) and Willian.

OGC Nice Demand €30m Release Clause Be Met for Liverpool & Inter Milan Target Dalbert

One of the stars of Nice’s Ligue 1 campaign last year, Brazilian full-back Dalbert, has attracted interest from a host of European clubs this summer. Liverpool and Inter Milan are believed to be leading the race to sign the defender just 12 months after completing a £1.7m move to Nice from Portuguese outfit Vitória Guimarães.

Nice president Jean-Pierre Rivère has decided that his star left back will be allowed to leave the Allianz Riviera stadium if club’s meet his €30m release clause. The defender is contacted at Nice until 2021, however, a move away from France now seems likely with Inter Milan keen to bolster their squad ahead of the new season.

Some clubs can’t afford to sign him,” Rivère said to L’Equipe (via Calcio Mercato).

“A few months ago everybody was laughing at our release clauses, today nobody laughs anymore because release clauses are the guarantees that our players will be leaving on our conditions. We are in a comfortable position right now.”

??Liverpool’s pursuit of Dalbert appeared to come to an end when Jürgen Klopp completed the signing of 23-year-old Andrew Robertson. Inter’s Luciano Spalletti currently has veteran defenders Cristian Ansaldi (30) and Yuto Nagatomo (30) accupying the left hand side of defence, with ex-Newcastle defender Davide Santon used in both full-back positions.

Gabigol Targeted by 8 Premier League Clubs as Inter Look to Get Striker Game Time on Loan

Internazionale are planning to send £25m striker Gabriel ‘Gabigol’ Barbosa on loan this season, after he failed to hit the ground running in Serie A in his debut campaign.

His high profile move from Santos last summer was seen as a statement of intent from the Nerazzurri. However, Gabigol has failed to replicate the success that his compatriot and namesake Gabriel Jesus has shown since arriving in Europe.

Barbosa has been on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in world football for a number of years, and was once deemed a bigger prospect than Man City striker Jesus. With four senior appearances for the Brazilian national team and two goals to his name, Gabigol featured just nine times for Inter last season, notching one goal in 111 minutes.

??Jürgen Klopp has been linked with the striker in the past. However, a move to Liverpool seems unlikely, as the Reds appear intent on focussing their transfer efforts on other areas – namely defence.

However, ?Bleacher Report claim that in addition to Liverpool’s supposed interest, Everton, Tottenham, Southampton, West Ham, Leicester, Stoke and Swansea are all keeping tabs on the young Brazilian, who claimed an Olympic gold medal in 2016.

Napoli Reject Bayern & Inter Offers for Defender With President Unwilling to Sell Key Assets

Napoli’s highly sought after right-back Elseid Hysaj will not be leaving the club this summer, as club president Aurelio De Laurentiis has no intention of listening to transfer offers.

The Albanian international has developed into one of the best full backs in Serie A, working his way through the youth ranks at Empoli before a £4m transfer to San Paolo brought him to the forefront of European football.

Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich lodged a £26.8m offer with Napoli to acquire the signature of Hysaj. However, De Laurentiis has rejected the move outright. Internazionale, in a bid to keep up with their big spending city rivals, matched Bayern’s offer although that too was unsuccessful, according to Football Italia.

Hysaj is 100% convinced of winning the Scudetto, if he wasn’t he’d have left Napoli,” claimed the player’s agent Mario Giuffredi in a recent interview. “He received a serious, concrete, real offer from one of the strongest teams in Europe, but he didn’t even consider it.”

Bayern’s interest in the defender has come after footballing legend Philipp Lahm decided to hang up his boots this summer. Although versatile youngster Joshua Kimmich has been used as a right-back, the natural midfielder isn’t a long term option in the eyes of Carlo Ancelotti.

Having previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, the Albanian international looks set to stay at Napoli, as the club look to improve on their third place finish in the Serie A last season.

With 20-year-old Adam Ounas the only new face in Maurizio Sarri’s side, Napoli will be desperate to hold onto Hysaj and other star players, such as Dries Mertens and Lorenzo insigne, in order to launch a title challenge next season.

Inter Milan Thought to Be Preparing Bid for Spurs Midfielder Erik Lamela

?Reports in Spain are claiming that Inter Milan are ready to make an offer of €15m for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Erik Lamela.

Lamela was sidelined with a hip injury for the better part of last season, and it is quite likely that Spurs would be willing to cut their losses and move him on for a fraction of their initial outlay.

Having spent €30m to bring him in from Roma back in 2013, they cannot expect to command a similar fee, but are said to be holding out for something in the region of €18m.

The €3m difference between the valuations could be worked out, though, especially if bonuses and add-ons come into play. However, there are concerns over the Argentinian’s fitness, and Inter could be trying to avoid risking to much on a player who may not be able to give them their money’s worth.

Marca (H/T ?Football Italia) are reporting that the Italian side have readied the aforementioned bid, having failed to land Javier Pastore from Paris Saint-Germain.

With neighbouring rivals AC Milan recruiting a wealth of talent this summer, and Juventus continuing to improve on their squad, the figures at Inter are well aware of the fact that they cannot afford to fall behind.

Signing new players has become paramount. The side have been languishing in an unfamiliar place on the Serie A table for the last few years and are desperate to compete with the top teams again.

Signing Lamela would probably go a long way, especially if he can remain healthy. But some sort of compromise will have to be reached in order for them to pull it off.
