Report: Fonseca will stay until the end of the season

Roma coach Paulo Fonseca left Trigoria with his agent today, but Il Corriere dello Sport reports he will remain in charge until the end of the season.

The team have returned to the Italian capital after the 6-2 defeat to Manchester United and coach Paulo Fonseca left Trigoria with his agent after talking to sporting director Tiago Pinto.

The players have returned and were tested for coronavirus at Fulvio Bernardini ahead of the training session and preparations for the match against Claudio Ranieri’s Sampdoria on Sunday.

The Giallorossi landed at 17.00 UK time today and immediately headed to Trigoria by bus, where all the players and staff went through the required COVID-19 swabs.

They then left the sports centre, but Il Corriere dello Sport reports coach Fonseca met with Tiago Pinto and then met his agent, who accompanied him when he left Fulvio Bernardini.

The newspaper claims Fonseca doesn’t risk being sacked immediately, as rumours emerged in Italy after the heavy defeat at Old Trafford.

The disappointment in the Europa League semi-final had left owner Dan Friedkin furious, but the newspaper claims Fonseca will still be the head coach until the end of the campaign.

The report reveals the owners are disappointed with the results in recent weeks but will wait until the end of the season to change coach.
