‘Sorry’ Spalletti Claims He Had Forgotten the Losing Feeling After Inter’s First League Defeat

Luciano Spalletti had to face defeat for the first time since the beginning of the season after his Nerazzurri side ended their unbeaten run by losing 3-1 to Udinese at San Siro on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors initially broke the deadlock thanks to Kevin Lasagna, but Inter soon made it all square thanks to the usual suspect, Mauro Icardi, who levelled the score one minute later and netted his 17th goal of the season.

However, despite largely dominating during the first half, the Milan outfit failed to take the lead and later on during the second half, conceded two goals when it was too late.

Asked how he was feeling in the aftermath of the match, Spalletti told Mediaset Premium: “I’m sorry for this defeat – like all of them. It had been a long time and we had forgotten how it feels.

“In the second half we were not able to keep the ball and we made mistakes, also not making brave choices. It did not turn out so well. This is something new, especially what happened to us at the beginning of the first half.

“This must teach us that when you lower the intensity in a league with such narrow margins, you will drop points. Even the tiniest situations can make the difference. Now we have to go back to doing the things that brought us to this point.”

The defeat proved costly for Inter, who have now lost their first place spot to Napoli who defeated Torino on Saturday night.

Spalletti commented on the competition provided by the the other top-tier clubs by saying: “For the teams at the top, it is a continuous sprint and it is clear that those who stop for a moment are overtaken.

“We obviously did not want this. With this small mistake, the other teams have gained a great advantage.”
